Maternity Style // Blue Flowers on a Breezy Day

To do list:
1. lay out spider traps in that corner of the basement where they congregate and plot my destruction,
2. make some really messy funnel cakes out in the yard before the 1st of September (ahh!),
3. sort my unused and overflowing magazine box once and for all,

Passionfruit Testimonial + 5 Membership Giveaways!

Hey guys, thanks for reading! So my one year anniversary of using Passionfruit Ads is coming up next week, and looking back on the growth that this blog has seen in the last year I can honestly say that I owe such a big portion of that to them! That may sound extreme, but if I break it down; using 'PF' to handle my ads gives me ridiculous amounts of time back, so I'm able to use that time actually blogging, which enables me to write better posts, which brings more traffic and interest (the traffic that sponsors pay for) which brings the money that helps me justify blogging in the first place, which enables me to keep going every single day:) So you can see that Passionfruit is directly linked to the success of The Freckled Fox!
Success since Starting to use PF: Looking back through my stats, this time last year I'd been blogging for about 6 months, and was getting between 30-40,000 page-views a month. Today I'm getting about 750,000 a month and growing. that's 3/4 of a Million page-views per month! 

I'll break it down even more. Before I started seeing Passionfruit popping up all over blogland and decided to try them out I did all my ads manually, and it went something like this:
Before Passionfruit Ads,

  • I received emails all month long from potential sponsors asking for rates and perks etc, 
  • we (each of the potential sponsors and I) emailed back and forth approx 4-6 times over the next week or so to cover prices, invoicing, button design, coding, timing, size, etc etc 
  • I would have to set aside the last 1-3 nights at the end of each month to take lots of Tylonal (I was not a code nerd) and prepare all the buttons and coding for 'the big switch' that had to be done at midnight on the 1st. I remember actually postponing a family trip once because we'd accidentally planned it over the changing of the months, and heaven forbid if I was away from my computer!
  • every week I'd have to go in to my gadgets and move the codes around to rotate the buttons.
  • I had word documents and spreadsheets set up for each month so I could keep track of which sponsor was buying how many months, and which wasn't starting till the month after etc.
  • I may have sent out emails gently, shyly letting each sponsor know that I had a discount code for them or something if they want to help out a fellow starving blogger. (awkward!)
  • on the last day of the month I'd file and save the expiring ads (to save me time in the future if they wanted to come back), and pasted the continuing ads to the pool of code going up on my sidebar. 
  • Once the upload was complete I'd check each ad and see which ones I'd not completed the code on or those few that had the pixels all effed up. Starting out each month by going to bed after the sun came up. awesome.
And its not like this is a one time process either (you know what I'm talking about! :)), this is happening perpetually! Each month's group of sponsors overlapping and messing up email addresses and names (heaven forbid if you have two Lauren's or Jessica's and confuse them... true story:/). This is all sounding familiar isn't it? 

Now with Passionfruit Ads, 
  • I spent about ten minutes when I first signed up customizing my own little sexy ad shop with prices, sizes, and perks, and then pasted the code provided into my site.
  • I get emails every time a sweet new sponsor wants to advertise on The Freckled Fox, and I get get paid every weekend. 
Passionfruit does the rest. Every bit of it. Can you see how I kinda find it ridiculous to hear about bloggers who want to make more money with blog ads, but don't think they can justify spending a few bucks a month for a middle man who takes all that headache away even though they're oh so busy? That's crazy talk! How much is your time worth anyways sheese:) 

There are so many different ways to look at it if you're not sure you can justify spending $9 a month on your blog for the monthly subscription. Well firstly by making it a yearly membership (only until Sep 1st!) you only spend $50 a year! That's a little over $4 a month in case you were just gonna work it out. $4 freakin bucks peeps. wowzers. Isn't your time worth way more than that? 

And don't think that if you don't charge for ads yet on your blog that $4 is too much or that you're 'losing money', because its just like any other investment you've put in to your blog to make it better, only not even close to the cost of a single one of them! I'm talking about ads you've bought on other blogs to build your traffic, or maybe your DSLR camera, Adobe Photoshop, a design service, consultations, or heck that pumpkin spice latte you buy every day from Starbucks to fuel your fingers on their typing journey of the day. And they don't just handle all the dirty work of doing blog ads anymore, with the new Passionfruit 2.0 released about a month ago there are sooo many variations on services and perks you can sell in your virtual little candy store. I could go on for hours.
If you do or want to do sidebar sponsorship ads on your blog, you need Passionfruit handling them. Plain and simple. It really does all comes down to How much is your time worth? If you break it down to hours you'd spend on ad managing every month and what you're paying PF to do alll the dirty work for you. It really seems effin ridiculous to think of doing it yourself, doesn't it? :)

I've had friends in the past who're been big enough that they justified paying a friend to handle all their blog ads for them so they could focus on quality blogging, and that's all well and good but I bet they didn't pay them no $4 a month, or even the $9! You can still think of it like you have a friend handling your ads though, because you can have Jason's (the founder and creater) cell number on speed dial to answer your questions 24 hours a day if you want, and he'll answer! That's what sold me from the beginning, was seeing a number labeled 'cell phone' on the website, and hearing a real voice after 2 rings. I needed someone that was going to take as good of care of my sponsors as I would, and Jason does just that. Actually, Jason caring about his bloggers moves us right on to the last and best bit of this post!

A Baby Girl Wish List

Hey everyone, and happy Monday!! So I know that I already have two little girls and that this sets me up big time as far as clothing and bedding, toys etc go, but that doesn't stop me from having plenty of hopes and dreams for baby girl number 3:) Without realizing almost I've created quite the list of little odds and ends that I would add to our nursery if we had some extra dough laying around, and I so I thought I'd share a few (or more than a few) favorite items on my baby girl wish list with you!

We really are pretty much all set up and ready for her to come. I had another midwife appointment today and everything's just perfect and peachy inside and out, which of course is always a relief to hear! The nursery's stocked up with all the essentials and supplies needed for feedings and changings etc, the bedroom's prepped for the birth, and I even just ordered her car-seat online from Target, so with a little over a month to go I'm feeling really prepared and confident!

Easy Rustic Raspberry Pie Twists

Hey everyone, and happy Saturday!! So I just have to start by saying that these are so incredibly easy and rewarding to make, and talk about getting into the Fall spirit! I know that we have a good month of warm weather around here at least to say nothing about where you may live, but that doesn't mean we can't start having Fall inspired treats. Besides, the lemon glaze is fresh and summery:) Take a look!
If I'm honest, these did not last more then 15 minutes by the way. They made the whole house smell fantastic, everyone was actually standing with plates waiting for them to come out of the oven, and you just try and not lick every last drop of that lemon glaze off your fingers. I dare you.
To be honest again a part of why these are so great is that they so don't have to look perfect. You know what I mean, those treats you're afraid to make for company because you're stressing over the presentation and the overall look, but with these who cares! You take a couple out of a basket with tongs or off a platter, drizzle some glaze over the top, eat them with your fingers or with a fork, and that's it! They're rustic, they're messy, they taste amazing. And did we already cover how fast and easy they are? K lets get started:

Rustic Raspberry Pie Twists
For the Twists:
- 1 pack pillsbury pie crusts
- 1/2 cup raspberry preserves
- 1/2 stick butter (4 tbsp for basting)
- powdered sugar for dusting

For the Lemon Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest

Method: 
Step #1: Preheat your oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit. Melt your butter in a small bowl for later. Spread a thin dusting of flour on the counter so your crust won't stick, and unroll your first crust all the way flat. Spread half of your raspberry perserves (1/4 cup) evenly over your crust.
Step #2: Match up your edges as you fold your crust in half. Use a pizza cutter to slice through the 'jam sandwich' 8-10 times depending on the desired width of your twists. I made 9 twists out of each crust with 8 slices, but for more defined twists I suggest 10 or more slices.
Step #3: Twist each strip twice (or more if you've made them smaller) and place on a well greased cookie sheet (I used wax paper in the photos because my sheet is losing its finish, but you'll have more problems with sticking if you do this) pressing on both ends to flatten them. Brush with melted butter (the sloppier the better), and bake in your oven till they're good and browned with a nice crisp, (about 12-14 minutes) brushing with butter a bit half-way through.
Step #4: When done, gently move to a cookie sheet and dust with powdered sugar. Serve immediately nice and hot or enjoy them cold, but don't leave out the glaze! Start by squeezing fresh lemon juice into a small bowl, and grating the zest right on top of it. Add in your powdered sugar a little at a time till its all combined nicely together. 
And that's it! You can drizzle the glaze directly onto your twists or make a little puddle on your plate for dipping, or both! Again, who cares:)
Make them, love them, and sit back and enjoy all the 'mmmm's' your family and guests will be making.haha Oh and if you give them a try don't forget to let me know what you thought! I love nothing more than feedback:) Also, if you have strawberry preserves on hand or blueberry etc you'd rather use, I think they would taste fantastic! Just make sure that you use preserves and not jam or jellies etc. They won't be thick enough to come out the same.

Maternity Style // a black and gold palette

touching: so much clean laundry. Which is better than dirty laundry, if I can keep up with the folding:)
seeing: lots of the park lately with all the walks the kids and I have been going on. Its our favorite time.
tasting: never-ending amounts of watermelon. We go through a couple a week over here. So refreshing!
smelling: nail polish as my girls and I get our toes on. Its becoming a sweet weekly tradition I think.
hearing: lots of Damien Rice. I think the slowness helps me keep calm and not get stressed out as easily:)

Summers End Hair Week: The Waterfall Ponytail

Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday friends! I've really loved adding all these new hair tutorials this week, and I hope you've gotten a new one or two you're excited to try out. Maybe its just because I've had long hair forever, but I always end up feeling so refreshed almost when I successfully do a new hairstyle. Something about getting out of a hair rut really contributes to a better mood. Here's today's!
For the last style I had to go with the theme this past week of quick, easy, translates from day to night, and most of all looks like you spent more time then you actually did, because when Fall comes around no matter who we are, I feel like we all have a shortage of extra time all the sudden! 
I think this style is a little girly and fun, and would look great with your favorite nerd glasses and flats, but also with that great mini and heels. And for the record, it will even last through the night when you konk out unexpectedly after a long day.haha So lets get started with the tutorial already!

Supplies:
- brush
- favorite curling iron
- hair-tie

- bobby pins
- hairspray

Method:

Step 1: Begin by brushing your hair smooth, then quickly curl the bottom 6-8 inches of your hair in 3 inch wide sections(Hint: alternate between pointing your iron upwards and downwards for variation in your curls:)). Fluff your scalp with your fingertips to loosen the curls, and spritz with hairspray. 
Step 2: Pull all your hair up into a high ponytail and secure tightly with a hair-tie, pulling your fringe or bangs out if desired. Tug your hair out from the ponytail a bit to create volume on top, then separate the hair right above the ponytail base and create a gap about an inch wide and an inch or two deep. 
Step 3: Next you're going to just start with the hair-tie and start pushing your ponytail into the gap head first:) Only push about half of the ponytail in however, make sure you're leaving out 6 or so inches of curly hair. Tug the hair on your scalp out again for more volume, and fluff the remaining hair from your ponytail up and around the ponytail base and pin it in place a bit. Spray for hold, and you're done!

Maternity Style // Ruched Chambay and Bare Feet

Hey you, welcome back. Martin and I went to the lake in the evening this past week, and I gotta say the warm air was getting pushed aside a bit by a cool breeze coming across the water, and it was really an eye-opener that Fall is coming! I've been thinking a lot lately, thinking back to when we had little Eleanor and I became a mom for the first time, I realized that this new life started of worrying that I'd miss each little milestone on camera, or that I'd feed her a certain kind of food too early, or that heaven forbid I'd not get the chance to dress her in that one little outfit before she got too big. We set such high expectations for ourselves as new moms don't we? And then we're so hard on ourselves when we can't deliver, or check all the lines off that to-do list...
 Even though all my little ones are still very young I do have more then a couple, and I've been writing in my journal lately about how far I think I've come in my thinking and in my actions as an almost mother of four. I've been asked questions about mothering so many little ones since I started blogging, and in writing answers and emails back I realized that I wouldn't have had it any other way. I don't wish that I'd been less anal or cautious with my first as I am now and will be with this little one, and I don't wish that I'd not bought all 200 mothering and parenting books that now sit collecting dust on the nursery shelves. I'm pretty sure I'm rambling now...

...but I guess to sum it up; we all can only do our best, and even though I feel like I've come a long way, I know that every person I will ever meet will have something I can learn from them, and should! Still rambling... well, I'd really love to share a bit of my mothering experiences with you all, since having four babies in 3 years is a bit unique.haha and considering I have a baby due in less then two months, these days are great for spilling those types of posts. So ask away! I love answering questions and requests in posts because I feel more like I'm actually having a conversation, which is awesome:) I'd love to hear your thoughts, they always make my day.
