to my littlest fox

This week our sweet Evelyn turned four months old! She was having some tummy time the other day while I did laundry, and I snapped these pictures of her that I think perfectly show her average mood on any given day. Such a little darling; we're all so completely smitten with her. Prepare for a little Evie overload.haha

Sweet baby girl,

These past four months since your birth have been amazing and exhausting and humbling and perfect. You came into our lives when we needed joy, and you brought such sunshine when everything was so dark. You reminded me that I could feel, that we still had a life to live, that this moment is all that matters, no matter what the future may hold.

Your chubby rolls, those contented sighs, that loving star that says so much, and your silent laugh that always makes my heart melt every single time. I could watch you for hours on end and never be satisfied:)

I no longer have the fears of a new mother; of wondering if you've eaten enough or too much, if you weigh too little or too much, or if I'm teaching you bad habits by rocking you to sleep every night in my arms. But I'm still scared every day, mostly of losing these days with you. Of missing out on one smile, one giggle, all those fingers squeezing just one of mine as tightly as you can manage. I love you so much sometimes I feel like my heart could explode.

You make me my best self. You and all of your older siblings that keep my running 24/7 and remind me constantly that I am not the most important person in my life. That I have to keep it together for others no matter how much I may want to wallow in self-pity. You rescued me, and you continue to rescue me every day that you squeal as I smother you with kisses, every time you tug on my shirt and pull us closer together, even when you cry because you need me.

I may wish that you will stay this age forever, but deep down I truly wish nothing more than for you to grow and learn, to find your voice, to find adventure. I can't wait to see what you do with your life my precious little one.

Love,
Mama

Have a great Halloween tomorrow, if that's your thing:)

  3. aaah, some day she will read this, maybe after she is a mother herself, and know how well and truly loved she is, and there can NEVER be too many photos of a beautiful red haired baby!! I have only a handful of myself, as photos prior to the digital age, got lost or ruined by thing like flooded basements :( your children will be able to see how much joy they brought you and Martin!! and us :)

  4. What a little sweetie pie! I'm praying my little one will come out with red hair too :) My hubby has red hair and though mine is more of an auburn now, it was red when I was little, along with the majority of my family. Red head babies are *the* cutest!

I recently came upon your blog and love your commitment to your family. I also read of your husband's health struggles.
