This is my beautiful and oh so serious 'Qween Eleanor' before her Kindergarten Halloween party on Friday, and in case you didn't notice, this is the same dress she wore for Halloween last year! Another testament to the fact that we still don't quite have it together, but that we're just rolling with it:) Here are the phone pics (Martin's and mine courtesy of Ellie) that we snapped quickly before heading out. Love my little clan!
We knew with everything that's happened and changed in our lives this year that we wouldn't be able to have our traditional Halloween of preparing and sewing months in advance for themed family costumes, but we're okay with that! Essentially we sat the older kids down a week ago and asked them each what they wanted to be, and then tried to find the quickest and easiest way to make that happen! I love that Ellie chose her outfit from last year, and I love that I could let it go and just enjoy the holiday for what it's about: Having fun together.
I had plans of making a big comeback for Halloween to somehow prove to myself and others that we haven't let this thing beat us in so many different ways, but I still think we've won this holiday:) Don't get me wrong, I think the kids look awesome and we've had a blast, I just had to really let my overachiever tendencies go and accept that it was going to be different this year.
Even if I didn't love the excuse to sew over-the-top costumes, etc, there's a lot of pressure on Halloween for us (as parents especially) to produce awesome/original/creative outfits and have awesome styled photo shoots (not that anything is wrong with being caught mid-sentence:)), but since we didn't really have the choice this year, we've been able to look at holidays from a brand new perspective.
All in all, I've still felt many little pangs of regret seeing all the many amazing costumes and makeup all over my friends blogs and Instagram's for the last month, but we couldn't be happier with our spontaneous, second-time-around Halloween costumes.haha Martin and I are wearing wigs and eyeliner and going as Trueblood extras or maybe vampire rockers with a baby? haha Sophia is going as Sophia the 1st (her favorite recycled birthday dress), John refuses to take his Knight/Ninja (as he calls it) costume off for anything, and Lydia is re-wearing Sophie's ladybug costume from three years ago. I'm pretty proud I kept track of the matching antenna and wings.haha
Sugar highs here we come! Since that's what Halloween is all about anyways right? Can I get an amen? :)
Take care tonight if you're going out and about, and have a wonderful holiday,
