movin'

What: Okay guys I know it's late, but I just had to share that yes it's true, we bought a new house and we are moving! Well, a slightly older farm-house on an acreage that's just 'new' to us.haha But we're so over the moon happy and can't wait to start our new life there.
Why: Long story short-er, Martin and I decided when we got married that our dream would be to live on a hobby-farm just outside of town. We had tons of reasons of course for wanting that lifestyle, but over-all we thought it'd be a great place to raise tough kids, and a strong family. A couple years ago we found what we thought was the house for us, but someone had already purchased it without our knowing. It was a big letdown, but getting into that mindset helped us realize that it really was what we wanted, and also some of the cons to watch out for in the future.

How: We put that dream out of our minds and moved on with life in our current house (which we loved then and still do), but as soon as the planets aligned and this house dropped into our laps (by a casual mention from my sister-in-law), we knew after one walk-through just about that it had everything we'd been looking for, and more! It's really our dream house through and through, and one of the biggest things we love about it is that it's very close to a lot of family. We just think that especially with everything that's changed in our lives this year and how things could change in the future, moving closer to our families is the way to go. It's just all really felt like 'destiny' if you believe in that sort of thing:)

Where: We're actually only moving a little ways from our current house! Same city, but instead of living in a close neighborhood in town, we're living just outside of the mass of buildings with more space to spread out. It's really the best of both worlds for us since we do a lot in town with our workouts, errands, etc, but now we can see more stars and hear the crickets... and get animals!

When: We're actually going to start moving in this week!!! It closed only last weekend (the first of the month), but we decided to step back from the screens (hence my radio silence), pull a few extra late nights, and see if we couldn't get the new place prepped for furniture and moving boxes this week. And we did it! Some of the biggest things we've managed to do so far (with the kids help mind you:)) is we:
- peeled off lots and lots (and lots) of wallpaper (my favorite was the plaid and townhouses),
- textured a few rooms,
- primed and painted about 2/3 of the house,
- pulled out most of the old shag carpet,
- ordered new carpet,
- dismantled the old kitchen (really needed updating),
- picked out new cabinets,
- chose more flooring for a couple rooms (carpet in bathrooms = nope),
- packed a bunch of boxes,
- painted some furniture,
- taped about 700 walls,
- eaten fast food a few too many times,
- watched Peppa Pig a few too many times,
and gotten enough paint on our arms and legs and clothing to... paint something really big with.haha

We also traded out some furniture as well as the old kitchen cabinets and appliances for some muscle help, since Evie is only a month old and Martin's not supposed to be doing too much extra (not that that's stopped him.haha), and we've been so blessed at how smooth and quick everything has been going.

So! To wrap it up: Yes I took a bunch of before pictures, and Yes I plan on sharing room tours with progress photos/ before and afters, etc, and I can't wait to show you guys all the details of our new place! I am having so much fun re-planning all the rooms and swapping furniture around, etc, and this new place is going to have such a different look and feel than our current place- I'm just so excited about every square inch of it! I wish I could share a picture of the outside because it's beautiful, but me think's that's not such a great idea? am I wrong? haha Anyways, thanks for reading tonight, and I'll be back here tomorrow to share something else I've been excited to write about for a long long time, so I'll see you then!

  1. Awesome! My hubby and I purchased 2.5 acres in Hagerman and we are currently in the process of building our new home. We have three kiddos, and we too, are so looking forward to having all that space for them to run wild. We both grew up in small rural towns in the same state as you, and we want to give our kids that kind of life. Good luck with everything... can't wait to see some pics! -Kari James #smalltowngirls

  12. so exciting! also, DO NOT post a picture of the outside of the home and your city. i just was reading someone's comments on another blog, and the person was saying how they found the blogger's home, address, value of home, etc all from the picture and knowing what city she lived in. super creepy.
