Martin's Black Forest Chill Cake

You are really in for a treat today! Or rather I am,... or was since they're all gone.hehe After we went to the farmers Market last Saturday, our fridge was filled with gorgeous fresh produce and berries. Martin just whipped these together so quickly and flawlessly, I was amazed at the end result! It was hard to keep from diving right in before I took the pictures. What do you think?
You know that "cherry on top" that everyone uses to describe the perfect last addition to just about anything? This dessert is where the saying comes from! :) Start with a layer of rich, moist chocolate cake, topped with the juicy and smooth mix of black cherries and jello. Add on a large dollop of freshly whipped cream and a 'cherry on top' and it's heaven.
This is one of those desserts that you surprise yourself when your guests ask where you bought them and you say "Actually, I made them!" So go give them a try, then come back and tell me how you wowed everyone:)

Martin's Black Forrest Chill Cake
{6 individual cakes, or one large cake}
Ingredients:
  • German Chocolate Cake Mix
  • Ingredients called for in cake mix
  • Cherry Jell-O 4 small boxes (or 2 large boxes)
  • 2 tablespoons gelatin powder
  • 1 lb Frozen Pitted Cherries
  • 4 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ¼-powdered sugar
  • Cocoa powder
Method:

- Prepare a chocolate box cake mix (or your favorite chocolate cake recipe).  Pour batter into four small spring form pans to approximately 1/3 full.  Bake until toothpick comes out clean.  Carefully remove form before entirely cool (to ensure the cake doesn't sick) and then replace form after compleatly cooled.  Chill cake in its form in the refrigerator.
- Prepare the Jell-O as specified on the box but adding in /dissolving an extra 2 tablespoons of gelatin powder.  After ingredients are dissolved together stir in your frozen cherries. Put immediately in the fridge. When consistency is slightly congealed, pour Jell-O into springforms over the cake (chill time will vary- give an approximate 3-5 minutes). Be sure and divide your cherries evenly between all your cakes.
- Return spring forms now full of cake and gelatin mixture to refrigerator. Whip and sweeten your cream. After the cake and Jell-O is left to set completely in the fridge (half hour minimum), carefully remove the forms onto plates, and top with your fresh whipped cream, a dusting of cocoa powder, and a fresh black cherry! Enjoy!
We had some friends over the night Martin made these, and all the plates were scraped clean   in no time at all! Every component compliments the others in perfect harmony. I just love how refined and gourmet they look, but so rustic at the same time!
I hope you give these a try, then come back and tell me how they turned out! You won't be sorry!
Xo, Emmy

  9. Wow! These look so elegant and special. I'd never have guessed they'd be so easy to whip up. My only problem is that I don't have the right pans. Any other options you think could work?
