coming Full circle

29 comments:
After completing his 12 week monitored home program, plus a few more weeks of evaluation with upped dosages and working out logistics, etc, Martin is finally scheduled for his second round of treatments at the hospital!
We got the call a few days ago while out running errands, and my heart raced a bunch in the linen aisle as our doctor confirmed that they could start Martin next week. The thing is, I won't be able to go with him this time because of having a little newborn, not to mention the four other little kiddos that are already trying to adjust to a different house and new schedules, etc. We've never been separated for this long before and it's going to be really hard, and we talked for the last few days trying to make it work somehow so we could all stay together, but there really is no way to work it out, and in the end he's going to be in great hands with an awesome friend who volunteered to be his wingman while I stay home with all the kiddos.

This time around will be much like his last trip, with a daily schedule consisting of different combinations of mostly injection therapy and IVs (through intravenous catheters), as well as some neat but more intensive procedures that heat his blood and so forth. It will be different though in that there will be no tumors removed, that they don't think his treatment will last as long this time, and that he'll be starting out with another round of contrast CT scans of his whole upper body and pelvis, as well as contrast MRIs of his brain, and lots of blood-work so they can compare with his last set. Overall the objective of the oncology team there is to supercharge his immune system once again with immunotherapies and build up his strength so he can continue to battle the cancer cells on his own, with the aid of his home program of medication and injections, etc, once he leaves the hospital. It's pretty amazing stuff, and we're so glad that we made the personal choice for Martin to start with this route.

So! You can see how it's kinda hard to answer briefly when people ask how he's doing, not only because he has better days and worse days, or because the more concentrated his treatment and the more it's helping him the worse he feels, but because as with most cancer victims, up until his tumor under his arm there was no outer indication or reflection of what was going on inside his body, so most of the time we don't really know how he's doing, not in-between scans, if that makes sense? Most days though, he is doing good:) That's what I usually say:) So thank you for checking on him, and on me, for caring, for being part of my tribe, and for your many sweet prayers and thoughts, because we have indeed seen miracles, and every new day is a gift for every one of us.

And moving forward, normally I only share so many details about his treatments and therapies with those that email asking for friends or family, etc, mostly because it's my least favorite topic as you can imagine, because this isn't a cancer blog, and because we've plain been so dang busy that I haven't updated it much at all anyways as 'm sure you've noticed.haha A few of you have sweetly requested that I share more on my blog in the future however, and since we've gotten more used to talking about it, and as of yesterday we finally have working internet at the new house(!), I'm happy to say that I see no issues in my keeping up regular updates of every kind including about Martin. So if that all sounds good or bad to you for any reason please let me know. :)

Well in-between our first trip to the Mexico Hospital in May and today, our sweet little Evelyn joined our family, we celebrated a few holidays, a birthday, moved house, started our oldest in Kindergarten, had some of the hardest days and some of the longest nights, but we've been grateful for every distraction as you can imagine, and overall we've made many happy memories and are excited and nervous to be back full circle for another round:)

Thanks so much for reading today,

Four smoothies to try + a new blog feature

33 comments:
Hey friends! Firstly I just have to give y'all a big drawn-out awkward hug for all the sympathy and support expressed on yesterday's post. So sad to know so many of you have gone through similar experiences, but also great to hear the advice for saving and stories of recovering your photos!

On to today's post: Four yummy looking smoothie recipes that I'm dying to try and wanted to share with you!

Martin and I first got our fancy blender and juicer back when we were prepping for our first bodybuilding competition together last year, and we were instantly hooked! We continued to keep juicing part of our regular diet as often as we can, and smoothies of all kinds are such a favorite around here that I've decided to add a brand new feature to my blog: 'Sunday Smoothie'. or 'Smoothie Sunday'.haha Which do you think?!

I just realized that I was making new concoctions at least once a week anyway's (before the new house that is:)), and since I'm looking forward to fine-tuning my nutrition with the new kitchen and getting back into a regular exercise regimen, that it'd be good motivation to keep my on track!

Let me know if that sounds like something you'd look forward to, and if you decide to give any of these recipes above a try, be sure and leave your review in the comments for the rest of us!

Take care loves,

The day that did me in

UPDATE: I got the pictures back! Read this for more info but the 'rice trick' worked on my poor phone and I managed to back it all up! Happy to have multiple copies saved now:)
Thank you guys so much for all the suggestions and advice!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today's picture-less post (for the first time ever on The Freckled Fox) is a PSA to everyone out there with a smart-phone that hasn't backed it up in a while: GO BACK IT UP RIGHT NOW!

Stop what you're doing, click away from this tab on your laptop or whatever, put down your cold pizza or cup of coffee and for goodness sake plug your phone in and back that $%*& up before it's too late. Do it:)

'Too late' for me was last week when my phone fell in the toilet and I lost E V E R Y T H I N G on it from the whole last year. I was okay losing my contacts and the texts, etc, and I was even okay losing my tons of notes that were filled with sentimental thoughts and journal entries, etc, but what I cried like a baby over was the 12,000 (read: 12 THOUSAND) plus pictures from August of last year up to now that are just totally gone. So heartbreaking.

Such a silly, stupid move to have not saved them. Especially since my phone was basically all we'd been using to take photos with since our life got so crazy:(

All those picture-worthy moments. All those happy memories that we could relive by flipping through those photos. Birthdays, Holidays, Martin's bodybuilding competition, date-nights, our life since he was diagnosed, our treatment trip to Mexico, family trips, sleepy mornings, all our home renovations pictures, lydia's crazy bedhead, all of Evie's home-birth photos and her whole life up till now basically. All gone. So heartbreaking:(

I didn't cry right away. Not until I was behind the counter talking to the phone tech, who told me it was fried, that I shouldn't have tried to turn it back on for at least a week and that there was no hope. The tears started to come as I really thought about how preventable this all had been. About how the years with Martin may be vary few as it is and I'd basically flushed all of 2015 down the toilet (pun intended), and once they started I couldn't stop them.

Those poor girls were so sweet and comforting as I stood there crying and nodding with kids in my arms and at my feet, while they talked about discounts and such for a new phone. Two of them wrote down their cell numbers so I could text or call if I needed anything. One of them kept patting me on the back.haha

I cried while packing the kids in the car, while driving to the old house, while putting my dead phone in a bag of rice, and while driving back to the new house. Then I cried some more in the driveway when Martin came out and held me for a while.

So, have I painted a bleak enough picture for you yet? haha Don't be the girl bawling in Verizon!! Back up your photos and never ever let this sort of thing happen to you, if it hasn't already. (If so, I totally feel ya!)

Flash forward to today, I have a shiny new phone and I've vowed to back it up at least a couple times a week at least. I also downloaded the free Flickr app (not sponsored:)) and set up the auto photo uploader, so all my pictures will be backed up in multiple places. I've also used and loved Photobucket (again, free and also not sponsored.haha) for years for transferring photos from my phone to my computer and vice versa. Just FYI:)

There will be many more happy days. More giggles, more trips, more birthdays, pillow fights, spaghetti faces, date nights, and crazy ginger bed-head, and if I'm lucky enough to catch any of it on camera than I can rest assured Ill have those photos forever.

No regrets in life, just lessons learned:) ...but if you have any words on your similar experience or any consolation, they'd be greatly appreciated! Haha

Take care loves,

P.s. We still don't have Internet at the new house, but now that I have my new phone I'll be able to post on social media again as well as share happier posts daily here on the blog. Hooray!

Lets play a game | self-love on IG

21 comments:
Something truly awesome happened yesterday.

After clicking 'send' on an overly long reply to a sweet reader who wrote with some self-love struggles, I decided to challenge my friends/followers on Instagram and Facebook to post at least one thing that they loved about themselves and would never change (inside or out). I also added that they should tag a friend to take the same challenge and maybe share something they loved about that friend as well.

Visit the posts on Instagram and Facebook to read the hundreds of amazing players who took just a couple minutes out of their day to really appreciate the value and beauty in their own unique and talents and traits, and spreading that love to friends. If you can get through even a couple comments without getting emotional than you're much tougher than I am.haha

Reading so many messages of self-love and sweet friendships makes me heart so happy:)

Side-note: One thoughtful commenter asked that I change the rules to not allow us to include physical traits in the comments. While I definitely see the virtue in that (what matters most is on the inside, after all:)), I decided to leave the rules alone because I believe that more often than not, our biggest insecurities are about our physical appearances, and so I wanted everyone to have the chance to acknowledge their beautiful outer-selves as much as possible. I hope that makes sense!

So! You knew this was coming I'm sure, but if you haven't already joined in 'the game' and would accept the challenge of naming at least one thing about yourself that you'd never change, I would LOVE love for you to leave it down below in the comments for us to read:)

Thank you all so much for coming together and sharing in my big circle of self-love/friendship/gushy-party-fest thing. See y'all back here tomorrow.haha
