a few November goals

I can't believe November is here! The day after Halloween I woke up with a stomach bug that's taking over the house now, but I looked at the new calender on my phone and thought of all the things we're going to do this new month, and I thought I'd share a few fun ones with you today:
1. Finally make that family trip to the cabin in the mountains I've been talking about on here since last Fall. It's such a dreamy place with air that's so crisp and clean, and it's such a great place to unplug and just be.
2. go on a family roadtrip.
4. Read at least three books, of which I've not totally decided on just yet, but need to figure. Any ideas?
5. Get the family holiday cards ordered. It always feels so good to get them out early so we can take our time instead of rushing. I refuse to be rushed.haha If'you've been debating about doing holiday cards this year I strongly encourage it! We've been doing them since the first year Martin and I had Ellie, and it's been a great bonding experience for our family even if it's a bit outdated:)
3. go to the orchard with the kids and pick some of the last apples of the season before the first freeze.
6. stock up on my favorite Fall scented candles for the rest of the winter.
7. Have chilly bonfires every weekend and maybe invite some friends over. We love moving away from the TV and going outside to snuggle by a big fire in the Fall when the world smells so amazing.
8. Put together a Fall cleaning checklist and prepare the whole house for the holidays! I love spring and Fall for the big pushes to get ahead in the house, and heaven knows the little nooks and crannies in our house need a little tlc:)
9. Read a different story to the kiddies every night before they go to sleep.

Thanks for reading today, and now I challenge you to sit down and write up a simple little list of November goals for you and or your family! It'll make you even more excited about the coming weeks and give you a satisfying sense of direction:)

Take care today, and maybe send a happy though by way of our sick little house? haha Love ya!

  1. If you're going to a cabin in the woods you should definitely read Walden, I read it while camping & it was great! If you've already read that there's a book called 'Awakening Shakti' for yoga-buffs I'm about to start, and for light reading I'm a huge fan of the Rivers of London series, which is urban fantasy set in London :)

    1. I second Walden! Amazing book with the most vivid, beautiful descriptions you'll ever read. 😊

  5. Stomach bugs are no fun!

I'm currently reading The Mists of Avalon and I've just started the Outlander series. Both of them are large and intimidating looking but they fly by since they are so engaging. They are what I call "cupcakes" since they are like literary treats (books that are good for the mind but not always as much fun are called "bran muffins" hahaha). A cupcake that can also be a bran muffin is my all time favorite book called The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins which is a Victorian Sensational novel. It's a mystery story that deals with a marriage gone bad, insanity and double identities, running and hiding in London, old gloomy Gothic homes in the English country, etc. It's the only book that I read ahead of the class in college and finished in 2 weeks even though it's a pretty big size.

I love me some books! Let us know what you choose!

  7. I just recently got into doing holiday cards and now that we have our little puppy, Murphy, I foresee us doing them each year! It’s a fun little activity that, like you said, is a bonding moment. A book that I’m reading and that I have the goal to finish is The Husband’s Secret...it’s so good thus far (if only my life ADD wouldn’t kick in). Other than that I’ve read Gillian Flynn’s other novels after I finished Gone Girl and Sharp Objects and Dark Places were pretty good.

  11. Your list sounds like items that I would love to do! You are such an inspiration. Books: Gone Girl (current read), Bossypants by Tina Fey (one of my favs), Stories I Only Tell My Friends, and Love Life both by Rob Lowe.

    Have a beautiful November!

  13. Great list! I have a fall bucketlist going, and we are making good progress so far! :) I have started reading Anne of Green Gables, because I never did as a kid! So far it is just sweet as can be, though I haven't found much time to read this year. I have only read 3 of the 20 books I hope to ready by year's end and I have been reading Anne since MARCH! -pathetic (for me). Maybe I'll make that more of a goal for the end of the fall. :) XO -Alexandra

  17. Love your goals! A bonfire every weekend sounds lovely, too much rain for those in Seattle right now :). I just read a great novel for book club that I blogged about (What She Left Behind by Ellen Marie Wiseman). Topic is a little heavy, but I couldn't put it down!

  18. Oh, I wish I had a cozy cabin to go to! I looked over the books I read last month and think that you'd enjoy a few: Where'd You Go, Bernadette, a super fun, quick-paced read set in Portland, and Bird by Bird, to encourage your beautiful and engaging writing.

  19. Going to an orchard! Lovely. That's something I haven't done as an adult but takes me back to my youth! // Caroline [ thestokeronimethod.com ]

  20. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thinks fall-scented candles are worth lighting all year long! I got a Carrot Cake candle on clearance at Kohl's last year and loved it so much that I've had to ration the amount of time I light it. Gotta make 'em last!

  21. My partner and I have been talking about spending some time up in the mountains this winter, up in the Pigeon Forge area, but he's such a cold enthusiast to my 'I want to hibernate' that I've been putting it off. Where would you go? Would it be your road trip? :)

  22. I love this little cute lists, I make them Myself each month/season. It is just too sad for Me that this is My senior year in university, so I barely have time to breath, study, and work let alone do any of those fun stuff :(
But there's always next year - wait, there's always CHRISTMAS first ^_^ haha!

    Loads of love, SJay!
