'The Basics' Hair Week, Tutorial #1: Everyday Curls + Review and Giveaway!

Hooray! Things have been really extra crazy lately, and I realized that its been forever since I've done a hair tutorial, let alone a hair tutorial series!! This one is really exciting to me because I've had so many requests for these styles that I've always taken for granted knowing how to do, styles that I'm sure you're familiar with and that I incorporate as steps into so many of my hair tutorials! Since today is the first, to kick it off I'm going to do the most requested, these easy wavy curls I do so often on the blog, and for the cherry on top I'm throwing in a fantastic giveaway at the end! Here's the first look:
This style is so effortless and foolproof, and I love that it can be so dressed up with some fancy outfit and jewelry, or dressed down with faded jeans and converse. So versatile and always gorgeous! I don't really blow dry my hair at all unless I'm in a hurry, but when I do I have to do something else with it afterwards anyways because I end up with this wavy, slightly frizzy, pretty lifeless look on the left(thanks blowdryer), so this style has really been my go-to for years when I want to leave my hair out and long because its easy and natural looking, not to mention it makes my hair look its best.
Big difference huh? Its fuller, shinier, and healthier looking! Lets get on with Easy Everyday Curls:
Supplies needed:
- Fine toothed comb
- heat protectant
- clipless curling wand (or regular 1" curling iron would do)
- hairspray
- clips or hairties to tie back

Method:
Step #1: Start by teasing a bit at the roots for some volume (only as much as you wish of course:)), at any rate make sure that you have lift at your scalp for a fuller look. Divide your hair into vertical thirds starting with the top layer and pinning it back, then the second layer, leaving the third to work on first.
Step #2: Spray a 2-3 inch section with heat protectent, comb through with a fine-toothed comb till smooth, and keep the wand close to your scalp as you wrap your hair around the barrel. Be sure to use your glove!(Some people are all awesome and say you don't need the glove, but I guess I'm not awesome because I seem to keep from roasting my fingers without it:)) After 8-10 seconds drop your curl into your palm and hold for a bit till its cool-ish. Twist your curl the direction it was curled, and spritz with a bit of hairspray.
Step #3: Repeat step 2 with your second and third layers, being sure to curl the pieces of hair framing your face to the back. You can leave it alone now for fun tighter curls, or you can run your fingers gently through your locks, and twist a few smaller sections together to create larger bouncier curls. Fluff your locks and scalp upwards with your fingertips and spritz with a bit more hairspray. Done and done!
That's really all there is to it. This style works with just about every length and texture of hair so have no fear! Also the twisting step makes them hold in place while they set helping the curl to last all day and into the next, they're so bouncy and light that I wear them all year round because I don't have to worry about 'hot neck' in the summer, and I get told that I have Victoria's Secret curls all the time when I do my hair like this so, win win right? :)
Now are you ready for the best part? I've teamed up with José Eber Hair to give one of you lucky peoples the Curling Iron's I used in this tutorial! When I received my curling iron in the mail I was so excited I opened it right then and styled my hair! I'm amazed at how quick and fast the curls formed and set, and I love changing out the different sticks and seeing the difference in the curls. I've been on top of the moon because I can style my hair in almost half the time then with any other curling iron, and I can get so many different styles out of just one tool! I absolutely love my Trio, and I'm so excited to give one to you so lets just get right to it! a Rafflecopter giveaway
Ready for more good news? Not only do you have the chance to win a curling iron, but you have the opportunity for 15% off anything on the José Eber website using the code Fox15! How lucky are you?!:)
The next six days will feature the most requested of the basic styles, and so I hope to see you back every day! I'm hoping that at least this week will show you these 'basics' be a lot simpler then you may have thought!

Thanks so much for visiting today, I'd love to hear what you think, and I hope you come back tomorrow for the next tutorial!
Take care my people,
xo, Em

  24. I love the idea of a clipless curling iron, because the traditional kind of iron (which I have) always leaves a crimped spot in the curl! Would love to win this!!!!

  26. We are natural hair twins! I've been fighting with my hair since the weather changed and I'm at my wits end. Because it's so thin and prone to breakage I've been avoiding using my styling tools... But if this humidity continues I'm gonna chop it all off.... Not really. The twisting and spraying part, I've never thought of. Gonna try it!

  28. I always get excited when you do a hair tutorial! It's always nice to learn new tip and tricks (like making twists and then curling those pieces!!) You are so beautiful! I'd love to have the Infrared Blow Dryer! My hair is pretty damaged from bleach, etc and I bet that the Infrared dryer would dry it quicker and cause a little less harm than my current one! Thanks so much for the giveaway! I've been DYING to try Jose Eber's tools, especially these clipless irons! Fingers crossed and good luck to my fellow hopefulls!

  56. Love this hairstyle! As a mother of three, I tend to throw my hair back in a pony tail or bun and go. Super easy and not much fuss, plus it keeps the baby from grabbing hold and trying to snatch me bald. I can't wait to try this one. Although, I need to buy a curling iron because mine up and died and it was barely used. Awesome... ::enter sarcasm here:: Keep the awesome hair-do's coming! Thanks for sharing!
