A few New Years resolutions - Things to Stop Doing

Happy New Year my friends! We had a really great New Year's Eve with a few favorite friends and family visiting, some delicious treats, games, movies, some big and noisy fireworks (which John especially loved!) and we topped it off with a midnight countdown and slow dancing to Auld Lang Syne:)

For the last couple months (and especially these last couple weeks) I've been reflecting on what a fresh start this new year really is! I love every chance for renewal and fresh starts (the first of the month, the beginning of each day, even Mondays!) and of course I've made lists of things I wanted to start doing, learn, try, commit to, etc. The longest list of all though include things that I want to Stop doing in 2015, and I thought I'd share a few of those things with you!
Stop Rushing | I hate rushing and being rushed by others, don't you?! It sends my anxiety through the roof and ruins whatever I'm heading out to do in the first place.haha This is at the top of my 'Don'ts' list for a reason.

Stop Giving Excuses | If I missed someone's call, I'm not gonna take the first 5 minutes after returning it explaining where I was or what I was doing. If I can't meet someone I'm not going to take 10 minutes explaining why not. It doesn't help me and it doesn't help them.

Stop Waiting | There is no better time to do something than right this minute! I'm a horrible procrastinator and I put things off till tomorrow far too often. I want to really focus on just doing things in the moment instead of putting them off indefinitely.

Stop Being A Hermit | To have a friend you have to be a friend, and this year I want to work harder on maintaining my friendships. When you give the world the best you have, the best comes back to you. We're all in this together and nobody can go it alone!

Stop Wallowing | We will never be able to control what others do, but we are in total control of how we react. That's my goal anyways.haha I often find myself in circumstances that leave me feeling frustrated and manipulated, and that's going to stop:) I am not a victim, and (for the most part) I'm in control of my own life.

Stop Living In The Past | the thoughts in your head and regrets about one thing or another really have a big effect on your life, and this year I want to stop slowing myself down because I can't move on from a mistake. It happened, it's over. Learn the best lesson you can from it and move on!

Stop Doubting | This is like a couple other of my resolutions, but I second guess myself and my goals a lot when I think they're too far-reaching or unattainable. This year though if an idea keeps coming back to me I want to make it happen! I do feel like each of our lives have a purpose and that we are guided towards the best future we can have, and this is going to be my year for hustling and taking action!

Well that's all for this post! I have far too many thoughts and resolutions to share all at once, but I hope these few get you thinking a bit and maybe give you a little bit of inspiration for things to ditch in 2015 instead of adding oodles more of things to do.haha Ultimately my main goal is just to be my best self! To be a better mother, a better wife, leader, blogger, teacher, friend, etc. This is my year!

Wishing you health and happiness in this brand new year, and thanks so much for visiting!

  3. I think I might have to commit to stop doing a couple of these as well, especially "Stop Living In the Past". I'm really good at carrying around guilt and regret for things that happened years ago, which everyone else have probably forgotten about, and I should more than likely not feel any guilt for anyway. So yeah, living in the past helps no one. Good luck with keeping to your goals, although I'm sure you'll do brilliantly.

  6. I love and can relate to each and every one of these! I am so guilty of all of these. I definitely need to live in the moment more.

  7. These are great!

On an unrelated note, it's weird to me that in my reading list your blog is now titled "The Freckled Fox - a Hairstyle Blog." I know you share a lot of hair stuff, but your space is about so much more. It's inspiring on many levels. Why reduce it to just one description?

  8. Those are really great resolutions! I am definitely guilty of doing some of those things, and I should stop them as well. I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks!

  10. Great list! I decided this year to keep it simple. I chose goals instead of resolutions (finish writing my novel, try new art styles, etc) and my one "resolution" was to just be myself. Be true to me. I think I spent so much time in the past on "resolutions" throughout the year, trying to be better, perfect, that my biggest resolution is to just stop having resolutions.

  11. Stop Rushing is the one thing I really really need to stop doing. I know when I'm doing it too but definitely need to make a conscious effort with it this year!! http://www.mumswearlipstick.blogspot.com.au/

  12. Those are all great things to stop doing in the new year; now the next best step is transverse them to all be positive...be on time, maintain my privacy, be productive, meet up with friends. etc... oh and #2 on this list; stop giving excuses, is brilliant. I do the same thing...when why I am or am not doing something is really none of that other persons business (and maybe they don't even care); life is so much happier when we can drop that inner guilt thing we do to ourselves. Great post; thanks for sharing!

  13. This is great! One of my goals is to work hard to make my friendships better. I have noticed that I'm not feeling very fulfilled by most of them... and I am going to try to see what I can do to be a better friend... which in turn might give me better friends too. We'll see how it goes, but I'm going to try. I guess that carries over into my 'put the social back in social media' goal I have too. Getting to know bloggers and online friends better too. Being more honest and open with them. I am also going to work on procrastination too. But at this point it is more like tying up loose ends. Good luck, happy 2015! :) XO -Alexandra

  14. I definitely need to stop being a hermit. I feel like I need to always be doing something productive, but sometimes the best thing to do is just be with a friend and shoot the breeze. Will definitely be trying to connect with my friends more!

  15. What a great list! I need to work on a majority of these things. What a great way to turn the perspective on resolutions!

  16. Love these! Usually "things to stop doing" feel more negative, but yours aren't. I definitely need to learn the "stop being a hermit" one... hehe. It's just so easy! :)

  17. Stop being a hermit! I know it is hard to get out with four littles, we are in the same boat. I agree though and this is on my list as well.
