Lemon & Rosemary Simmer

Hey lovelies! I'm so happy its Saturday right now, how about you?! I'm not sure if its my attitude towards our schedule or our actual schedule that has changed, but I feel like things are really calming down here and settling into a really nice rythem. When Martin left I set out with a big to-do list as usual of things that I wanted to get done, but with the extra time without his hotness distracting me I'm really surprising myself at how much I'm actually able to achieve! That's a great feeling:) I gotta add that Martin more then pulls his weight around here and his help is greatly missed, so in the long run maybe it all evens out.haha
I'm a huge, huge candle person. I have a really hard time not burning them all day, every day, in every room of the house. That can get a little expensive as you may imagine however, and also its not very tempting to use holiday cinnamon, fir tree, winter berry etc smelling candles in the middle of the summer.haha. I wanted citrus! And in thinking about some sort of potpourri or something that would be cheaper to make the house smell nice, I remembered reading something once about Williams Sonoma simmering lemon and rosemary together on a stove to make their stores smell good all day. What a great idea! So, here is what I threw together inspired by Williams Sonoma smelly goodness:)
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • a small clump of rosemary
  • a tablespoon of vanilla
  • a large pinch of lavender florets *wink*
Bring all the ingredients to a boil in a small stockpot and let it go for several minutes. This will help with marrying the ingredients together in a quick way, especially if you're using dried rosemary.
After a few minutes of rolling boil, turn your heat down to medium low and simmer all day long or as long as you want obviously:) Remember to continue adding more water as needed or you'll scar your pot.lol
Also if you wanna give new life to the smell after a long day, just press the lemon slices a bit against the side of the pot. Worked like a charm!
Give it a try and let me know what you think! I absolutely loved it. The house smelled so citrusy and sweet all day. Marvelous! Nothing quite like the smell of a rich citrus to help things smell clean and fresh. I'm going to do it at least once a week from now on I think.

Have a terrific weekend dearies!
xo, Emmy
