Sweetheart Hair Week: Tutorial #3 - Rockabilly Rosie

Back again with style number three! Every time I do another tutorial I think its my new favorite, and today's is no exception! This one is probably the most basic and iconic, because its so much like the famous 'Rosie the Riveter', the only difference is that the whole back of her head is covered with her bandanna  but I wanted lots of extra sassy curl in there. What do you think?
This style is so spot on vintage, you'll look like you just walked off a movie set. I felt so awesome with it, and again its much easier then it may look with all my details! Even if retro wasn't makin a big comeback, I'd still be doing it much more in the future, because its easier to get away with, even in a small town!
You have to give this a try. there's just no going back after you do! You'll be hooked just like me.haha as uaual let me know if you have any possible questions, and I'll be sure and get back to you! Lets get on with it:
Supplies needed:
- fine toothed comb
- brush
- 2+ inch curling iron
- bobby pins
- hair-tie
- hairspray
-headband (optional)
Method:
Step #1: okey dokey so the first thing is to section off a rounded front bang section for later use. Make it about 3 or so inches back and just at the top of your forehead. Then you're gonna make a semi high ponytail and secure tightly with a hairtie. Next grab a 1 inch section, brush it out, put a teeny bit of serum on it, and give it a good curling!
Step #2: Next you're gonna roll that curl around three fingers (unless you have skinny fingers then do four.haha), stick it up on your head about 2-4 inches from your ponytail (you're going to stagger these), and secure nicely with a bobby-pin on either side.
Step #3: Continue this with your whole ponytail, as I said previously you're going to stagger each curl closer and farther away from your ponytail to create a very full and fluffy bun in back. Then letting down your front section, you're going to brush it upwards and away from your forehead.
Step #4: Curl the front section very close to your scalp, making sure to direct the hair straight upwards and into the iron. This will help it stay in its front roll without any teasing! Roll the curl under, snugly around your two fingers. Once you've reached your forehead, just hold it there with one hand, and pin it with the other. Go in one side of the loop (carefully), and pin the other side from the inside out. Does that make sense? we don't want our pins ends to show, so by doing this you're hiding them inside.
Step #5: Once your front roll is all pinned up, you'll want to gently comb the top forward to smooth over potential loose hairs. Press downwards a little and give the sucker a good coating of hairspray for hold. Tie any choice of headband or bandanna around the middle of it all, and you're all set to go!
I gotta tell you , after I took this tutorial, I spent the rest of the day doing chores around the house with Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong playing, and I felt so awesome! haha I swear I was getting more done because I felt like a strong little housewife from the 40's that'd just tied up her hair and rolled up her sleeves to get some serious work done. Felt like a boss:)
Anyways thank you for visiting again today, and I'm excited to hear what you think! If you decide to leave a comment (I lo0ve comments), then thank you so much for taking the time!
Lots of love and good wishes
xo, Em

P.S. Side note: After each tutorial is written I think I could have done that in less pictures and steps, so I'd like to know, are you happier with the clarity of my tutorials? Are they too long for you? Are they just right? Because like I always say I've been confused by brief tutorials in the past and I just want to make sure you have success! What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear them all!

  5. For me, the more details the better. I can't tell you how many times I've searched on both Pinterest and Google looking for a tutorial for a specific project and the tutorials I found were both confusing, and lacking in pictures. Seeing so many pictures helps me understand what I'm doing. Keep up the amazing work! :)

  24. Love it. I rock rockabilly in a small town all the time (Elko, NV which I would venture isn't too far from you plus I grew up in MT where even the biggest town is pretty small). Wear any of the vintage hairstyles with a cute sundress and no one even questions it. They do think it's super cute though. And the more photos the better. All of your vintage hair tutorials are great :)

  29. I tried this for school today, I agree it felt like I walked right off a women's rights move set or something :) I didn't have a curling iron but I got it to work pretty well. Its a little shabby looking on me but who-cares right?

  31. Today is Halloween and I wasn't planning on dressing up. I am a home manager. Lol . I have loads of laundry to do and dinner to begin preparing before I start to head out of the house to pick up the kiddos at 130pm. This route usually last me till right about 430 with just enough time to help dress the children and start the trick or treating evening. Thank you for being my inspiration today. Now I won't have to run around town in a tacky costume. I can look classic and beautiful and I have a mini lesson for the kids when they ask what I am dressed as, to boot. Thank you.

  34. I love doing this hairstyle especially when I need something quick and easy for school! I might not have time to do the whole curling in the back to make the bun but because my hair is so thick anyways it looks just fine with a normal bun. It saves me so much time if I'm having a hectic morning!
