I am not overwhelmed (+ rewriting my feelings) | a guest post

Hey everyone! So today I have a fun guest post for you today from a great bloggy friend of mine, Danielle Dowling! You may already know about her and her site, but Danielle is a life coach and psychologist who works with woman from all walks of life to help empower and motivate them to be their best selves and take control of their lives and achieve their dreams. Every post I read of hers seems to give me these little 'ah-ha' moments and leaves me feeling uplifted, and I'm so excited to have her here today!
She's touching on a subject that I've really been working on lately, not feeling overwhelmed, and I know a lot if not all of you have struggled with this in the past or currently are, so I hope you enjoy!

Friends, a bit of real talk.
I have been feeding myself a lot of negative mental garbage lately.  I’ve been telling myself I am overwhelmed and don’t have the focus or attention span to work on all the projects I am involved with AND juggle clients.
I will flounder if I try, I say.
I am fighting to re-write that dialogue in my heart + in my head.
We all do this – struggle with self-doubt, self-sabotage, mental rubbish.  It’s this self-sabotage that holds us back from bigness.  At our core, we’re more afraid of success than we are of failure.  Why?  Because actualizing our fullest potential means we may have to shake things up.
We may be seen or noticed.
We might have to live up to higher expectations.
We might actually do the things we’ve been put on this planet to do ….  and then what?
We might have to reach further + do even more!
These are the thoughts that run laps in our heads + tell us that we aren’t worthy or enough.
You were meant to shine.
You are enough.
You and I are meant to do magnificent things.
So I’m “rewriting my feelings.”
I’m flipping my negative feelings around to create positive ones. This is my latest mission and  I’ve found it to be amazingly, heart-shakingly empowering.
I am not overwhelmed. There is enough time and it will all get done,
I chant.
I am an amazing girlfriend, a savvy business owner and reliable friend.
I recite to myself.
I am centered and organized
I dare you to try it if you are doubting yourself in any way.
But.
You have to say it like you mean it and then DO something about it!
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. – Marianne Williamson
Deny the lies in your head that tell you that you are not ready for big things.
Fight the false belief that you are not good enough + ill-prepared.
Bright star, we have all the tools + everything we need for greatness.
Let’s make a pact to arrive at thrive + resist the urge to get stuck in survival mode.
You.
Me.
We.
Us.
In trust + boldness.
….

If rewriting this script seems easier said than done, it can be helpful to get some supportive, kind words down on paper.  We’re going really, literally rewrite our feelings.
If you’re feeling flustered and unfocused, write:
I AM a laser beam of productivity.  I don’t stray from my goals. I am centered and unflappable.
If you’re feeling dull and uninspired, write:
I am filled to the brim with creative ideas. I engage with the world around me and see potential everywhere.
You get the idea.  We’re going to quite literally flip your script.

  1. This is exactly what I needed to read right now. "At our core, we’re more afraid of success than we are of failure." This is so shockingly true. I often feel I am afraid of failure, but after reading this, I think it is quite the opposite. I think I can be my own worst enemy sometimes and hold myself back from everything I know I am capable of. Thanks for this. xo Kati www.katikonfidential.com
